You know it has the potential to be a long three days when one of the first conversations that you have is with a lady who asks whether we were aware that you can make embroidery thread from hair of shihtzu dogs? Er…..no? Before I tell you the full outcome of...
I have been taking many photos recently and downloading them into my Picasa files (in an attempt to keep them in some semblance of order!). It occured to me that the negative to digital images is that you don't tend to keep them anywhere where you can look...
This weekend pooped me out but I really loved it! The weather was fab and the people were so lovely and enthusiastic! We were busy with the stall but also had some great workshops in the arts tent: Feltmaking workshops….. Beaded jewellery workshops…...
First of all, I have to say, I really liked writing that title as we often pick on Beryl about being a master felter – and just think of what her business card would read! Beryl has a very special place in the development of Make and Do. About two years...
The latest schedule seems to have taken much longer than usual to get organised and, in a self reflective moment, I was asking myself "why?". But then I Iooked at the schedule and we now have 15 unique workshops – with four highly...

Our Overlockers for Beginners workshop can make all the difference to your finished sewing – no more raggy hems and your finish looks like it was made by a high street shop. But what if you have never sewn on one before and are not sure if it will make that much difference for the sewing that you do and the additional cost of purchasing one? Or what if you have one but do not know how to use it properly or keep finding that the same old problems when sewing keep you from using it to its full potential? Or what if people keep telling you that you need one and you have no clue what it is!
Our Beginners Guide to Overlockers is for those that do not own an overlocker but want to have a go on one or have one but need guidance on how to get the most out of it and how to overcome the main problems that occur when using one.
You will receive approximately two hours demonstration in the Studio’s relaxed environment, including a question and answer section, on how to use our four spool serger, a Toyota SL1A or any overlockers brought by attendees. This is a chance to see what an overlocker does and also answer questions on what using it requires. We also discuss what overlockers we would recommend for purchasing if you are considering buying one.
After this session, you have two options:
If you have a machine, we will work with you to set it up and use it if possible.
If you do not have a machine, you can have a try using our overlocker, asking any questions needed to help you fully understand and feel comfortable with using an overlocker.
We also have a handout created by our sewing machine technician, which covers the main problems that occur when using an overlocker and more importantly, how to fix them!
