I think the pictures say it all – this is the last of the six week sessions for the older children and the bags are finished!!  We were not short of models at the end of the session so I decided a collage approach to showing off the latest range of Pretty Excellent bags was in order.  I also snuck in a photo of my little one (yes, we do believe that starting them early for sewing is essential however, he is only 17 months!) who came along to one of the sessions.  Got to love the hat!

The children have been so patient over the last six weeks – some took to the machine faster than the others but waited for their turn without complaining, others got the hang of threading a needle and went on to help those that struggled – but the bags are the best token of their achievement. They should be very proud!

I also treated the children to some home made brownies as a way to say thanks. One of the students, Josie, said she had never had a brownie before (!!!) so I said that I would include the recipe for them below. My sister Kat is a professional pastry chef and has more awards than I care to mention. These brownies won't win any awards but they taste great and are quick to make. They are so easy and they have these magic calories that don't go directly to your hips when eaten (honestly!)

Mad Brownies

9 tbsp. of cocoa powder

3 tbsp. of vegetable oil

400 g caster sugar

4 medium sized eggs

1 tsp vanilla essence

170 g plain flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

Heat oven to 180*C/gas mark 4.  Mix the cocoa with the oil and sugar, then beat in the eggs and vanilla essence.  Sift the flour, salt and baking powder together and mix into the batter.  Spread the mixture into a greased and floured 13x9x2 bake tin and bake in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. If you want to have a bit of variety – add chopped walnuts, chocolate bits or miniature marshmallows!

All the best –

Maeri
